Independents Show 2014

Two of my Mixed Media Art pieces are currently in the Independents Show 2014 at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. The show runs July 2-27, 2014. "Storybook" is a 12" x 12" Mixed Media wall hanging. It is a hand drawn copper etching with cutouts backed with painting. The piece is two separate panels riveted together. "Epilogue" is a 6" x 6" Mixed Media wall hanging. It is a hand drawn copper piece adorned with a jasper and copper signature Laurelynn flower. It is a bridge between my art-to-wear jewelry flower line and my mixed media art.

Artists' Nook & Gallery

I was lucky to meet Jill Grossman at the Gill's Landscape Nursery "Art in the Garden." She is a stained glass artist and the owner of Artists' Nook & Gallery located at 939 Ayers at Six Points in Corpus Christi. She rarely takes jewelry, but invited me to show some of my flower pendants and other pendants in her gallery. There will be a reception this Saturday. I am so excited for this opportunity! Please support our local small businesses and artists this Christmas! We have so many talented people in Corpus Christi. I am almost overwhelmed by it as I participate in these events!

Copper Quilt: An American Sampler

By Jennifer
This piece is an homage to the traditional fabric handycrafts in America.  It is entirely made of copper.  Each square was made using a variety of metalwork and wirework techniques .  Other enhancements are torchfire, ink, and acrylic. The center square is a traditional quilting pattern called a Log Cabin design. I used several gauges of sheet copper and copper wire for this piece.

Detailing-various gauges copper wire formed and forged, coiled, textured by stamping and hammering, aged with liver of sulphur

Copper sheet cut, textured, and riveted

The Independents Show 2011

I have 2 pieces in The Independents Show 2011 at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. Here's the show info:

What: The Independents Show 2011
Where: The Art Center of Corpus Christi
When: July 1, 2011 - July 31, 2011

My pieces are both displayed in the Meadows Gallery. The reception for the show is July 14.

This is my big piece. It is called "Persephone." It is comprised of 22 individual art-to-wear pendants. They are crafted in a series to tell the story of Persephone's yearly descent into Hades and her return to her mother, Demeter. Materials include patinaed copper, semi-precious gemstones, and glass. It is approx 25" x 17" and is very heavy.

This is "Hades Flower" which is at the very bottom of the piece:

This is "Demeter Flower" which is at the top of the piece:

Here is my second piece that is in The Independents Show 2011. It is called "Arachne the Weaver." From Greek Mythology, Arachne was the young woman who angered the Goddess of Arts and Crafts, Minerva. This piece documents Arachne's challenge to a weaving contest and her transformation into a spider after angering Minerva and Zeus. It is constructed of upcycled remnants of art-to-wear pieces that I have made. Materials include: bare and patinaed copper, brass, hemp, and waxed cotton. It measures 7 1/2" x 6".
